Linear motion guides rail brakes use spring force to secure the load in holding applications. Superior response time and high force provide stopping and holding functions in power-off situations. Each brake clamps directly onto the center of the guide rail to provide positive braking and holding in all axes. These profile rail brakes hold position accurately by eliminating drive train backlash and elasticity.


NSK's PU/PE Series Linear Slides have been designed for clean, miniature applications with smooth linear motion. The lightweight compact design of this linear slide features resin ball recirculation components that offer reduced noise output. When transferring the ball slide from the provisional rail onto linear bearing rails, or vice versa, butt the provisional rail up against the rail and slide the ball slide directly from one onto the other. It is a good idea to secure the ball slide onto the provisional linear bearing rails with a rubber band after removal from the rail.

Preventing grease deterioration and leakage, as well as the intrusion of water and other foreign matter into the grease, are vital for eliminating bearing trouble and lengthening maintenance intervals. The WFA series ball screw is a new member of the highly regarded NSK maintenance-free series ball screw product line, incorporating the NSK K1 lubrication unit.


If a linear bearing ball is accidentally dropped from the ball slide, it should be cleaned and replaced to the appropriate groove. The correct groove can be determined by the size of the clearance between the balls (the groove missing the ball will have greater clearance than the other grooves). It is normal to have a gap of 1.5 ball diameters in each groove.


In the early 1980s, the manufacturers of machine tools throughout the world started to replace the conventional bars by linear guide assembly, which provide high precision, high rigidity and smooth running. This roller guide offers super-high load capacity, rigidity and motion accuracy, plus smooth linear motion. Capable of handling a variety of applications, the RA series roller guide supports high machine performance in many factory automation applications.

Setting a new standard for accuracy, load and rigidity, these new linear slides deliver superior performance in all the right places.

In NSK, every linear guide assembly, the mounting bolt holes are processed after heat treatment using a precision machining center; therefore, the bolt hole pitch accuracy is as good as the positioning accuracy of the machine, which is considered very good. When tightening the bolts, be sure to start at one end and work in order to the other end. If the bolts are tightened at the middle first, it tends to leave the linear bearing rails curved. If you suspect this has happened, loosen the bolts and start again. The rail that has been tightened can now be used as a reference rail. Using a vernier calipers or other accurate tool, measure the distance between the two linear bearing rails, and adjust each end until they are the same. Tighten a bolt snugly at each end of the rail. Move the table to one end of the linear bearing rails, and start tightening the adjusting rail bolt sequentially to the specified torque while checking excessive friction of table movement. Continue moving the table down the rail tightening each adjacent bolt until they have all been tightened.


High performance seal configuration substantially improves the dust-proofing performance of the linear bearing slide and ensures higher grease retention, leading to increased durability even under highly contaminated conditions. High performance seal dramatically reduces the entry of fine contaminants into the linear bearing slide for increased service life under heavy exposure to dust.

Linear slides bearings with two enclosures are pre-greased at the factory and are classified as “greased for life”. This simply means that the type and amount of grease is sufficient to outlast most general applications, with the exception of temperature extremes, contamination, high load and high speed. Enclosures are defined as either contact or noncontact and refer to any gap at the inner ring. The popular Z metallic shield does a good job of keeping the grease in place and larger contaminants out of the bearing. NSK applies an anticorrosive coating to their Z shield in the event of moisture and because they are noncontact, their operating speed and starting torque are unaffected.
