OPERABLE WALLS

Automatic vertically folding acoustical wall (from here on called operable walls) shall refer specifically to acoustical partitions that, when in the down position (closed) are hard, rigid, flat, plumb walls, made of a grid of rectangular acoustical panels, and when are lifted (opened), fold upward (vertically) without the use of any manual labour, in a manner similar to an accordion, into a pocket in the ceiling, between roof joists, or up between built in bulkheads. In the down (closed) position, the wall shall be comprised of two vertical planes of acoustical panels, separated by an acoustical air space.

















Skyfold is an acoustical wall that is hard, rigid and flat in its down
position. When not in use, however, it folds vertically for storage in
the ceiling. Developed as a modular system, it consists of a grid of
rectangular acoustical panels.
Skyfold Autolift Automatic Walls system has been tested by the National
Research Council of Canada in compliance with ASTM E90 for sound
transmission. The tests yielded an STC rating of 51 while individual
panels obtained an STC of 54 as tested at Concordia University’s Center
for Building Studies. Better yet, the system was shown to retain its
sound-separation capabilities over the life of the wall! There are also
a variety of panel finishes available that offer desired NRC properties.

We pride ourselves on being able to design and install our folding walls systems into virtually any space. First, we use the unused ceiling space to store our system. This is where the sky is the limit in terms of what we’ve
done and can do to customize our system to suit your design. We can fit
our system between beams, ducts and pipes or under them and run our
cables around them. We have two motor drive systems that easily
accommodate the most cluttered plenums and your specific needs and
limitations.
Skyfold is an acoustic folding wall that is hard, rigid and flat in its down
position. The innovative design of the internal wall seals emerges as
one of the key features of the Skyfold system. Not only do they
eliminate the need for wall and floor tracks, they prevent the marring
of adjacent wall surfaces and allow Skyfold walls to be installed at
90° to each other. Extremely pliable, Skyfold’s end seals will fit
snugly against most surfaces, including masonry blocks. The flexible
horizontal seals at the top and bottom press firmly against the
acoustical barrier at the top of the pocket and against the floor.

retractable, operable partitions. A simple turn-of-a-key switch and
Skyfold retracts quietly and effortlessly into the ceiling. with a
travel time of 5' to 10' per minute. Skyfold acoustic has eliminated
the need for manual labor to assemble and disassemble walls.

Skyfold operable partitions represents the latest development in
operable walls. The operable partitions store safely in the ceiling
when not in use and fold down to form a hard, rigid and flat wall in
its down position. The Skyfold modular system consists of a grid of
rectangular panels for varying wall sizes.
The gym dividers are opened and closed using a spring return, 3
position key switch. Turning the key from the “off” position will
cause the wall to move in the designated direction “up” or “down”.
When hand pressure is removed, the wall immediately stops. The
operable wall stops in a quick and positive fashion without
coasting. As a normal part of the operation, it is possible to
partially open (or close) the wall, stop it and then reverse the
operation. There are 2 key switches per operable wall, on either
side of the axis of the wall.
